The period during which an asset will have economic value and be usable. The useful life of an asset is sometimes called the economic life of the purchase. To qualify as an operating lease, the property must have a remaining useful life of 25 percent of the original estimated useful life of the leased property at the end of the lease term and at least a life of one year.
